Tariff Information

The Kingdom of Bhutan reopens its borders to tourists on September 23, 2022. However, it will do so with a renewed emphasis on the sector’s sustainability. The tourism industry will be revamped, with a focus on three key areas. They are infrastructure and services, tourist travel experiences, and the environmental impact of the sector.

Levy.

A tourist must pay a tourism levy known as the Sustainable Development Fee of USD 200 per night, which may be revised from time to time by the Competent Authority. The proceeds going toward carbon-neutral activities, and the development of a more sustainable tourism sector.

SDF of Rs 1200 per person per night will be charged for Indian tourists.

The Minimum Daily Package Rate (MDPR) is being phased out. Tourists will be able to engage service providers directly and pay for their services accordingly.

Exemption and Concessionary Levy.

Subject to any conditions specified in the Rules, the Competent Authority may provide for an exemption or concessionary levy rate on the applicable Sustainable Development Fee:

(1) Day tourists who do not travel beyond the first designated point are exempt.

(2) Children aged 5 and under are exempt.

(3) Concessionary levy of 50% for children aged 6 to 12 years.

(4) Other exemptions or levy rates that may be deemed necessary.

Cancellations

Tour programs booked and subsequently cancelled shall be subject to cancellation charges as follows:

(a) Within 30 days of the start of the tour programme: Free

(b) Within 21 days: 10% of the rate

(c) Within 14 days:15% of the rate

(d) Within 7 days: 30% of the rate

(e) Less than 7 days or cancellation without notice: 50%of the rate

(f) After arrival in Bhutan: 100%

Delayed Arrivals

There is no charge for delays in arrival and departure because of weather conditions disrupting flights or road blocks. The tourist must however bear the cost of food, accommodation, transportation, and other services required.

It is highly recommended that you purchase travel insurance prior to travel.
